2017: UNWTO Technical Workshop on Sustainable Tourism for Development: Challenges and Opportunities for Africa, Lusaka, Zambia, 16th November.

Invited participant and presented on: Measuring the quadruple bottom line.

2017: Long Run Initiative Annual Members Meeting, 22-26th September, Cape Town.

Stakeholder engagement with private sector operators from around the world, including from Brazil, Costa Rica, Finland, Kenya, Indonesia, Phillipines, and South Africa. Presented on: The impact of sustainability reporting on profitability and brand value.

2017: Tourism partnerships and concessions in protected areas: cooperating for success: A project spearheaded by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

The project is being worked on by tourism concession experts from the IUCN TAPAS Group: Dr Anna Spenceley, Prof. Paul Eagles and Dr Susan Snyman. Together we have developed a CBD new market-led publication on tourism concessions, and provided capacity building and skills development opportunities for protected area managers across southern Africa, at a series of training and networking events. This project is being supported by the German Ministry of Environment (BMUB) and as a pilot projects under the Bio-Bridge Initiative (BBI) financed by the Government of the Republic of Korea. Co-facilitated a four-day workshop in iSimangaliso (29th May-1st June 2017) and facilitated a workshop in Windhoek, Namibia (20th-21st June 2017).

2017: Represented Wilderness Safaris at the 16th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Bogota, Colombia in a Forum on Peace Tourism: Culture, Conservation and Social Development.

Invited and hosted by ProColombia, a government department responsible for tourism, the visit included an ecotourism experience to advise them on responsible tourism as well as meetings with various government officials, including the National Parks Director, Head of Biodiversity

2016: 3rd Annual Southern Africa Women in Tourism Conference, 28th-30th November, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Panel discussant and presented on Empowering Women through Adult Eco-Clubs in a session on Sustainable Tourism Development Value Chain Linkages: Opportunities for women in both rural and urban.

2016:          1st Annual Southern Africa Sustainable Tourism Development Forum Conference, Johannesburg, South Africa.  Facilitated a session on Transfrontier Conservation Area Development in Southern Africa and presented on ‘How to measure the impact of Community-Based Tourism on the community’

2016:        UNWTO Awards Forum and Ceremony, Madrid, Spain, 16th & 18th January.  Presented on Children in the Wilderness (CITW) at the UNWTO Awards Forum and represented CITW at the Awards Ceremony: second runner up for Innovation in NGOs.

2015:          Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on the draft Operational Guidelines for Community Based Tourism Initiatives, National Department of Tourism, Pretoria, 27th October 2015. Invited participant.

2015:         9th ATLAS Africa Conference on Tourism and Inclusive Growth in Developing Economies, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, 3rd-5th June.

Invited to give a keynote presentation.  Presented on Inclusive Tourism: Making a sustainable difference.  Also gave another presentation on: Household income determinants for rural households living adjacent to or in conservation areas in southern Africa: Comparison of ecotourism staff and non-staff.

2015:         Conservation Land Trust Workshops, Argentina, 15th – 26th May. Invited to participate in various interactive workshops with stakeholders from government, NGOs, academia and the private sector.

Presented on: Socio-economic and environmental impacts of tourism, engaging stakeholders, building capacity, including examples from Africa.

2015:         Sustainable Tourism Certification Alliance Africa 4th Annual Conference, Durban, South Africa, 7th May.  Bridging the gap between tourism and conservation – southern African challenges and opportunities.

2014:         IUCN World Parks Congress 2014, Sydney, Australia, 12th -19th November

Represented Wilderness Safaris and the IUCN WCPA Tourism and Protected Areas Specialist (TAPAS) Group.  Member of the organising committee for the TAPAS Group: assisted in the compilation of a ‘tourism journey’, highlighting all tourism-related events at the Congress.

2014:         Technical Workshop on concessioning and investment in Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs), Garden Court OR Tambo Hotel, 2-3rd September 2014

Invited to participate in reviewing the Tourism Concession Guidelines for TFCAs in SADC as well as to participate in a panel discussion on Transboundary event products, promotion and challenges.

2014:         Improving Protected Area Governance for Livelihood Security and Biodiversity in Southern Africa, May 21st-22nd 2014, Hilton Hotel Windhoek, Namibia

Invited to attend high level dialogue.  The dialogue bought together Heads of Protected Area agencies from the SADC region, key development partners and selected technical experts to have roundtable discussions, informed by case studies and lessons learned from the region and beyond, resulting in priority recommendations for action incorporated into a Statement to the 6th Work Parks Congress.
